On World Earth Day, which we celebrate annually on April 22rd, “Mother Earth” is crying out for help to all of her “children,” all inhabitants of the planet, to urgently care for her and repair the damage that is being done to the earth, which Pope Francis calls “Our Common Home — Our mother is crying out to us because of the harm we have inflicted on her by our irresponsible use and abuse of the goods with which God has endowed her.” The earth can indeed be called a “Mother,” as she provides for what we need to live.
The annual diocesan Chrism Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 12, 2022, at the Cathedral Church of the Sacred Heart in San Angelo. All are invited! A meal will follow the Mass for those who wish to partake.
Pope Francis will consecrate Russia and Ukraine to the Immaculate Heart of Mary at St. Peter's Basilica in Rome on Friday, March 25, 2022. I will also pray the Act of Consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary at Sacred Heart Cathedral in San Angelo at the same time.

The Consecration of Russia and Ukraine to the Immaculate Heart of Mary will be pronounced by the Pope on the afternoon of Friday 25 March in St Peter's Basilica. The act of consecration will be performed in communion with the local Churches throughout the world. [external link]

The Diocese of San Angelo will launch the diocesan phase of the Eucharistic Revival on Saturday, June 18, 2022, with the celebration of Mass and Eucharistic Procession from Sacred Heart Cathedral, beginning at 4:00 p.m. Bishop Michael Sis will celebrate the evening Mass and lead the outdoor procession in the San Angelo downtown area. After the procession, the diocese will hold an overnight vigil of Eucharistic Exposition at Sacred Heart Cathedral, which will conclude with Benediction before the celebration of the 10:00 a.m. Mass on Sunday, June 19.
Despite freezing temperatures and icy roads, over 40 college students and local parishioners gathered Feb. 4-6 at the Cathedral Church of the Sacred Heart in San Angelo, Texas, to attend SEEK22, a hybrid conference exploring the Gospel message and call to missionary discipleship hosted by the Fellowship of Catholic University Students (FOCUS). Parishioners and ministry leaders in the Diocese of San Angelo and around the country continue to find themselves the targets of scams. One frequent tactic used by criminals to defraud the faithful is to utilize text messages or email to impersonate a pastor and ask for the purchase of gift cards. The person claiming to be the pastor will claim they need gift cards for some charitable reason, but say they need the person receiving the text messages or emails to purchase the gift cards and share the validation information.
Sister Marie Malachy Griffin, OP, died on Friday, December 10, 2021. Griffin was a former director of the Office for Religious in the Diocese of San Angelo and director of the Angelo State University Catholic Newman Center. As we make plans to participate in the liturgy of the Church at Christmas, we are in a unique situation this year. Both December 25 and January 1 are Saturdays. In such a situation, there are often questions regarding which Mass will be celebrated on Saturday evening.
