The historic storms that spawned at least nine tornadoes in North Texas in late December 2015 have resulted in 11 deaths and damage of more than $1 billion. There are many families who have lost everything.
Bishop Kevin Farrell of the Diocese of Dallas has informed us that Catholic Charities of Dallas and the St. Vincent de Paul Society will distribute funds to assist storm victims with temporary housing, meals, and other practical needs as they wait to rebuild or relocate.
This is an opportunity for us to carry out the corporal works of mercy and exercise the Christian virtue of solidarity. The people of the Diocese of San Angelo have always been very generous in reaching out to help others in time of need.
Parishes may choose to take up a special collection in early January for the tornado victims, and send the proceeds to the Finance Office of the Diocese of San Angelo, with "Tornado Assistance" in the memo line. The diocese will consolidate these funds and forward them to the Diocese of Dallas.
Individuals who wish to make private donations can make their contributions directly to the Diocese of Dallas. Individual contributions can be made here:
