The Catholic Diocese of San Angelo does not have an annual appeal. Currently, the Chancery places a cathedraticum tax on parish revenues. However, certain revenues are exempted from this assessment and various deductions from revenue are allowed. A parish's gross revenues are reduced by national collections, diocesan collections, payments made to or received from another parish, payments made to a parish school, most grants received, fees associated with catechetical ministries, insurance recoveries, most subsidies, a standard deduction, and other items specifically approved by the bishop. These deductions yield a net revenue which is taxed at 16%. The amounts received by the Chancery pay costs associated with personnel, facilities, administration, and faith and education programs including priestly formation, diaconate formation, pro-life initiatives, family life and marriage programs, social justice, evangelization, worship, and many other programs related to our Catholic mission.
Regarding Acts of Extraordinary Administration in accordance with Canon 1277 and the complimentary norm of the USCCB decreed on April 5, 2010, Bishop Sis is fully in compliance including that Bishop Sis obtains approval from the Finance Council for matters of $250,000 or more and for other matters as required prior to implementation.
