O merciful God, God of light and peace,
we pray for all immigrants who have tragically died
in their attempt to seek a better life in a new land.

You told us that death is not the end of the road.
That although we die we are not objects of blind fate.
You made us, we are yours. Our destiny is to live,
happy with you in eternity, without suffering or death.

We present to you the cry of so many men,
women, youth and children who in tragic despair
have buried their hopes and dreams on their migration journeys.
Full of confidence, we pray for your perpetual light to shine on them always
and for them to find peace in your presence.
We also pray for their families.
May your love be with them and comfort them in their sorrow.

And pour over us all
the grace and strength of your Holy Spirit,
so that we may know how to build a world of brotherhood and justice,
without excluding anyone.
We ask this through Jesus Christ, our Lord.
